In conjunction with World AIDS Day on December 1, L'Oréal Australia announced the official launch of the "Hairdressers against AIDS" programme. After initially rolling the programme out to the hairdressing trade in June this year at Hair Expo, Australia's largest hairdressing event, the official launch to media and stakeholders was timed to coincide with World AIDS Day. An internal awareness campaign featured at L'Oréal Australia's three major sites: St Kilda Road (head office), Hampton Park (distribution centre) and Botany (Luxury Products Division) with posters and banners throughout the locations, red ribbons and wristbands for sale, and an internal raffle run to raise funds for the Victorian and New South Wales AIDS Councils. Over AU$700 was raised through the raffle and the selling of red ribbons and wristbands. Australian Hairdresser of the Year, Caterina di Biase of Heading Out (Melbourne) and Brad Ngata (Sydney) both generously donated prizes for the raffle. As a further sign of its commitment to this cause, L'Oréal Australia is now also a member of the the Asia Pacific Business Coalition on AIDS (APBCA). APBCA was launched in 2006 by former US President, Bill Clinton, and supports the establishment and coordination of country-level business coalitions throughout the Asia Pacific region. The APBCA network of business coalitions collaborate to assist companies manage the impact of the HIV epidemic on their business and the communities in which they operate. L'Oreal Australia representative, Megan Ryan recently attended the final APBCA members meeting for 2009 and shared L'Oréal's efforts surrounding World AIDS Day with other members of the APBCA board and corporate partners.
